Growing up in Seattle, Gnat’s relentless humming and unguided explorations of the neglected family piano grew slowly but surely into a love of songwriting, unwittingly drawing from the music that surrounded them, from Steely Dan to Christina Perri (thank you dad and the early 2000s). They were lucky enough to spend their high school career performing their original music in the iconic grunge venues of Seattle, a venture that shifted courses during their college career.
Now, singer-songwriter Gnat has returned to solo work after two formative years as bassist and co-lead singer in their dearly departed college rock band, Dinner With Me. A self taught instrumentalist, jazz-trained vocalist, and formally educated poet, gnat sharpens the sounds of many indie singers that we know and love and meshes them with a uniquely rich and robust lyricism, influenced heavily by their experience of queerness and a notably feminine frustration with relationships and the world. Following the recording and release of two albums with their band, their first official solo record was released in May 2025.
